The Daintree is a pocket of ancient
tropical rainforest locked in a biological time capsule
on the driest continent on earth. Sample the unique
flora and wildlife of the Daintree's wet tropic coastal
lowlands and the mysteries of its evolution and survival
over millions of years. The region is one of the most
complex ecosystems on Earth - one hectare can hold some
30,000 different species of plants, reptiles, mammals,
birds, insects and other organisms - and has the richest
Flora and Fauna diversity in Australia.
Daintree Cape Tribulation Rainforest is the oldest
living tropical rainforest in the world. The only area
in the world where the Rainforest meets the Reef. The
Daintree Cape Tribulation National Park actually reaches
a little further, from the Mossman Gorge in the south to
the Bloomfield River in the north, a total of 17,100
hectares. It is listed as a World Heritage protected
area.
The Daintree Cape Tribulation National Park also
includes Daintree Village, a township 12 kilometres past
the ferry crossing on the southern bank of the Daintree
River.
The Daintree Cape Tribulation National Park contains
some of the most rare and endangered species in the
world. The Rainforest contains 65 per cent of
Australia's fern species, 21 per cent of its cycad
species, 37 per cent of its conifer species, and 30 per
cent of its orchid species. It is home to 50 per cent of
the country's bird species, 30 per cent of its marsupial
species, 27 per cent of its frog species, 23 per cent of
its reptile species, 41 per cent of its freshwater fish
species, and 60 per cent of its butterfly species.
Take a 4WD safari day tour day tour to explore the
pristine and ancient rainforest. Experience this
world heritage wonder through an interpretive tour,
either self guided on the Cape Tribulation boardwalks or
with a naturalist guide.
Cruise the Daintree River looking for crocodiles, tree
snakes, Ulysses butterflies, kingfishers and a host of
other animal and bird life. Cool off at Mossman
Gorge's cold running streams and swimming holes
surrounded by the Rainforest.
See the huge strangler fig trees, the 'wait-a-while'
plants, the ancient cycads and the multitude of other
plant life - many only to be found in the Daintree Cape
Tribulation Rainforest.
